When the sun next leaves footprints across the sky!

One of my favorite lines from Jason's Lyric. Even though the phrase means simply a time of day, I have always envied the depth of Jada's character. I long to be able to intrigue a man's soul and mentally stimulate a man's mind the way Lyric did Jason's.

Another one of my favorite lines is "The world ain't full of Jason's. What you found was quiet in a world full of thunder." Made me re-think the Good D*ck debate thing that has been going around in the blog world lately, and how beautiful that sounds, for about 2 seconds I thought I could be with the perfect man that couldn't lay the pipe. Then I remembered the scene with Jason and Lyric at the bayou and how he was giving her the business and then rolled over, and that oh so sexy shot of the leaves and grass strategically placed upon his buttocks, and I came to my senses.

Thinking of this movie made me feel a lot of different emotions. If I can be honest for a minute. In a way, it made me scared of having a man love me that much. I mean we all long for it, I know I eventually want it one day, but the thought simply scares the hell out of me. I always say silently why is this chick crying when they are on talk shows or in the movies and a man gets down on one knee and proposes, but then again, I cant even fathom what emotions will be going threw my body if/when that day happens for me.

Another aspect was the sacrifices you have to make for love. In this movie Jason put his family before his love. How many have done this? It really took for him to get a scare that he would lose his true love forever before he realized that sometimes some things can and need to come before family.

If you have no idea what I'm talking about, here is the trailer:

I remember the first time a guy told me he loved me. We were on the phone and just about to hang up, so I think I said, "g'night" or "bye". Instead of saying the same, he very seriously said, "I love you J". I hung up the phone and told myself I didn't hear what I thought I heard, but hearing him say that scared the shyt outta me.

Love is still scary. It's good when it's good, but for me it's still scary because it makes you feel so exposed.

That's my movie! One of the best sex scenes EVER:)

Love, love, love. Any intense emotion is jarring...love especially. Sadly, instead of getting easier, it seems to only get harder the more experiences you have with it. *sigh*

Aww the family and love debate. It's hard to know when to pick one over the other. It's also hard to make that transition from putting family first to putting a woman first.

that was my first soft-core porn movie. My dad was trying to cover my eyes during the sex scenes. But the love scene in the flower fields was something i could never forget...to this day.

Love is very scary! We all claim to want it, but the real question is whether we are ready for it. I'd like to think that i am, but not quite sure.

something someone said on here reminded me of what Holly Hazlett-Stevens said on Oprah..."As we grow up, we learn that even the one person that wasn't supposed to ever let you down probably will. You will have your heart broken probably more than once and it's harder every time..." Isn't that the truth!

love is scary! jada's horrid "southern" accent KILLS me. but oh mr. jason. sigh.

Love is a scary thing. It is something you might not be expecting but will have to come at a time in your life you are ready.

Right now to me, the thought of someone telling me they loves me sounds so corny…

Love is definitely scary--not just feeling that deeply about someone--but when you open yourself up to loving someone, you open yourself up to losing it as well.

And Jason's Lyric (sigh) definitely H O T!

Even though this movie was released so long ago, it still is one of my favorites! It was so raw and filled with passion and that must-have kinda love. I can only hope that one day I can find that...

The Jaded NYer January 22, 2008 at 9:06 PM

I must co-sign on the "love is scary" theme. I've actually said, "shut up, stupid!" to a guy who professed love to me... I mean, what are you supposed to say back? It's too much pressure.

I think that's why I bought this lifetime membership to The Single Life...

I like this movie, its message. Great acting & one of the best black romance movies I've seen. It got kinda crazy at the end though.

"Lance" and Jada were getting down in that abandoned building. Weren't they? lol.

people sleep on this flick, but it's seriously a 'hood classic.

and as scary as love is, i wouldn't fight for one second, fallin' for a man like our fictional jason.

although we would have to find a better way to leave town.

they greyhound is cool and all... but, come on ;)

Angel January 23, 2008 at 1:35 AM

that truly is a classic love story. no, it's not plain and simple and wrapped up in pretty packaging, but it sure does strike a chord with all of us who only believe in love if it's raw and uncut like this...

who? January 23, 2008 at 3:37 AM

Love isn't scary to me. Firstly, I could never say I love you first (did it a total of once in my life and I was high as hell). girls always tell me they love me first and I just don't believe them half the time.

There was only one occasion where I could say the love was mutual, though. That's why I am the way I am about the topic of love

I JUST watched Jasons Lyric last weekend, I think and that quote stuck out to me...I think I missed the next few minutes of the movie, because 'finding quiet in a world full of thunder' touched something so deep within me. Something that I definately long for...but am TERRIFIED of as well. Great post!!

Love is a real scary thing...Most ppl are not ready for the type of commitment and energy it takes to love and be loved...

Many of my single friends complain about not having met the "love of their life" yet and I always tell them, you’re lucky you haven't met that person yet, because if you did you prob. would not be ready for it. Enjoy being single, get to know and love self because trust when that day comes that you do find someone to LOVE and they actually LOVE you back, you want to be ready...

This is from someone who found love at 19...6yrs later me and "the love of my life" are still crazy about each other but do go through difficulties having met each other so young and naive...

Sorry if I'm off topic...LOL

The scene in the building like Don said is the one tho! I thought I was banging Jada (how exciting that was back then for a teenager) Now I look at this movie and I critique it too much. Real love is romanticized too much. It's some scary shit. It's some ugly shit. It's some messy shit. And at the same time it's some good shit too

Tiffany S. Jones January 23, 2008 at 7:41 PM

I will agree with the comment before mine. Love does suck! I mean, I think people in love are, for the lack of a better term, stupid.
No offense, but people in love do shit they wouldn't normally do, say shit they wouldn't normally say and all around do what they have no business doing.
And on top of that, somebody always ends up getting in deeper than the person they're in love with.
Excuse me ... I had a moment. As you were.

This movie is in my top 5. I'd love to have a love like that.
