I Remember...

The Grown Woman Me Remembers...

When I wasn't paying back student loans

When I had a six-pack and I could eat whatever I wanted and it stayed intact

When I enjoyed losing myself in a good book and now I struggle with find
ing the time

When I wasn't addicted to blogging

When I lived in a city where I could afford to have my own apartment without a roommate

When I didn't drink beer and now I keep coronas and grenadine in the fridge at all times

When my birthday actually meant something

When I actually had more than one hand's worth of presents to open up on Christmas morning

When I was doing radio... I miss my 102 jamz fam

When I used to rock the short Halle Berry haircut and my recent angst to go back to it for the summer

When I said I would never wear a weave

When I said I was never having any kids

When poetry was therapy for me and I wrote a piece about almost everything that was happening in my life

When I graduated from college and set my wedding date for July 5, 2008 (Obviously I ain't gonna make that date)

Grown Woman song...

Grown woman quote...
"I wasn't born an original, to die a clone"

The Little Girl Me Remembers...
When I used to talk in pig latin with my friends so the adults wouldn't know what we were saying

When saying "I'm not your friend anymore" never really meant anything and only lasted a couple hours.

When the only way the opposite sex could hurt me was by pushing me down on the ground and I scraped my elbows or knees.

Wanting to be the female Spike Lee

Sneaking out with my mom after the younger kids went to sleep for Keith's Custard

My aunt taking me to the R. Kelly 12 play concert for my birthday even though my mom told her I couldn't go.

Racing barefoot in the middle of the street and killing everyone on the block.

When my cousin Shemar broke this brand new mirror that my grandparents bought and my Grandpa Roosevelt whooped every child in the house because of it. Lined us up, made us stick our hands out, and beat on our knuckles to a pulp with a wooden spoon.

When I used to ask my Grandpa JW for a dollar and thought I was rich.

When I got that boombox with the super whoofer and I would sit on the porch and blast the radio taping every song that came on.

When I refused to go to bed unless every pound puppy I owned was also in the bed with me.

Little Girl song...

Little girl quote...
Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity. I Timothy 4:12

I like this reflection post:-) We all need to do this time to time. Cute lil girl pic eb! And I love your playlist!

Mizrepresent April 1, 2008 at 7:22 PM

Excellent post Eb, i think it's good to remember, the lil you, lil me in all of us...it reminds us of where we've been, the dreams of childhood, how far we've come, and how far we have to go. It also let's us know how far we detoured, stay on the path young lady, i'm told dreams at 10 are not much different then they are at 40 if you don't make them happen.

Brittany April 1, 2008 at 8:13 PM

"Lined us up, made us stick our hands out, and beat on our knuckles to a pulp with a wooden spoon."

And pound puppies..AWWW
