Another Name...

Question of the day
Do you know what my name might have been if my mother wasn't so rebellious as a teenager and not listening to her parents. Do you know my grandmother wanted to name me Mahogany Essence Jones. What the heck. Now I know in '81 everybody was all proud to be black and all that, but are you serious. Mahogany Essence. I'm so glad my mom went with Eb the Celeb instead, even though she still had to be creative and couldn't spell it the regular way, I love my name. I feel it suits me well. At one point I did want to change my middle name to Love... so my name could be Eb Love Jones...lol since I really don't get my middle name at all or like it. It's not anything weird either I just don't think it fits me. Anyway, Question for the day... If you could change your name... what would it be?

Oh, Mahogany is not that bad. It’s funny because whenever someone finds out what they were going to get called they never like it.
I hated my name growing up. Everyone always made fun of me, or they couldn’t pronounce it. It’s grown on me now and I like it because it’s unique. I wouldn’t change it for the world.
I hated my middle name growing up. I thought it was so ghetto. Lamont. So Sanford and sonish. lol
Growing up if I could have changed it, it would have been to john or joe or something that starts with a j. Then I'da been D. J.
But now I'm cool with the name. I just got problems with the spelling of it.
I was named after my dad so I really can't complain about my name. the only complaint I may have is it's really plain. If I could change it I'd be Ricky Bobby... lol
I've thought about changing my name several times. I especially hate my middle name (which will never get repeated online...ever) and I wasn't too fond of my first name. I got stuck with the usual Chuck or Charlie shortenings. I wanted a strong name, or something different. But then I thought that I'm a Jr., so my name is like a tribute to my dad, and when I thought about it, thats not so bad.
lmao @ Ricky Bobby!!!
I kinda like Mahogany Essence actually.
My first & last name translates to "wise flower" and I luvs it!
My middle name comes from my favorite grandmother and I luv that too.
What can I say...I am in love with all three of my names! I would post them, but blogger has way too many stalking azz stalkers to post my information like that.
I wouldn't change my name. I love Afrodite. =)
I wouldn't change it now. When I was younger, I thought it was too girly. I was a tomboy and I thought Tiffany Shenell (pronounced Chanel) was a lil too much. But now I like it, although it sounds like my parents had a thing for lamps and perfume.
My mom made up my middle name and the story behind it is very embarrassing. My first name is so common that there was a girl in my graduating class with the exact same first and las name. I don't think Essence is bad. I have a cousin named Paradise, I think that's cool and my daughter's teacher's name is Bliss. I like those kind of names. I can't chose one for myself right now, but I think they have their own special unique qualities.
the name Ebony still shows an awareness of African heritage. I was just talking to one of my good homegirls (she's a blog entry waiting to happen - lol) about mahogany, I think that name is personally, fiyah! For real, when I hear mahogany Im like that girl got that oooooooweeeeeeeeee!!
i like the name mahogany.
i like my name as well. don't think i'd change it.
and yes, eb the celeb by any other name wouldn't be the same!
Heaven Lee Divine. lol I know but I like that name, If i wasn't so whipped I would have named my daughter Heaven Lee.
So what is your middle name?
Great Post!
I've actually grown to love my name, but growing I hated my middle name (Vernita) and love it today. Actually me and my aunt share the same middle name. But I am so glad my mom chose not to name me Piper (Her childhood best friend)
I didn't like my name as a little girl because people couldn't pronounce it. But I love it now and wouldn't change it for the world!
I loathe my name.....ugh. A bit too White for me, chile. And it's one of those names that aren't going to match up well when I'm older. You know what I mean?
Like Katie....that name is really only fitting for teenage girls and 4 year olds. Kinda like how you don't see those same 4-year olds with names like Joyce, Cynthia or Mildred.
I'm going to be an 80-year old that answers to, "Brittany". WTF mannn?
I actually LOVE my name.
April Caprice Davis
I only have issues with people during this month and sometimes the month after.
Everyone is always hitting me with April jokes and expecting me to laugh like its the first time I've heard them.
I have to burst their bubble by telling them that I'm 30-something and I've heard their joke at least 15 or 20 times before.....LOL.
at least u were gonna get Mahogany, my grandmom wanted to name me either Tawana or Elizabeth. I am not neither, not really a Crystal either, but they went with that one. I think I am more of a Semaj or Sade. I always liked names that began with an s
I didn't like my name growing up b/c it was too common. I hate hearing someone yell my name and I turn around only to find out they are calling someone else. And that someone else could be a dude. I told myself when I got of age to do it, I was going to at least change the spelling of my name from Tracy to Traycee. Don't that look better? lol Now the spelling doesn't bother me as much.
I always liked the name Stephanie. My mom wanted to name me Kertrice Lynnae but she was "in love" so I was named Ieisha (after Stevie's Wonder daughter and the song "Isn't She Lovely") but then my family had to be different and spell it all crackish.
Middle name...is my grandfather's middle name which attributes the spelling. And for the first time in a long time, I'm gonna share it cuz I don't normally. It's Meighan. Pronounced like the white girls Megan but once again, with a bunch of extra letters.
Growing up, my family actually called me by my middle name. Till I requested them to stop.
But the names that I love are:
Zhana or Tseday (the T is silent) I'd like to be named either of them.
I used to want to change my name when I was younger, but that's because my mom told me that my first name was a last minute decision -- Lauren. I wanted to go by my middle name -- Michelle.
However as I got older, I loved my name again, thanks to Ms. Lauryn Hill. But I wanted to change the spelling, and actually sarted spelling it different -- Laurin or Lauryn.
I'm a Jr. It's not that I don't like my name, because I usually go by the shortened way of saying it, but if I could change my name, I think I'd legally have it changed to Caesar.
I want to have two boys and Name the oldest one Osiris and the younger Adonis... or if they're twins, it might not matter. IDK about a daughter, though.
I used to want to change it to Renee (my middle name) but I really dig what I've been given.
I love my name! It suits me. I hate that Rocky made it famous but its cool lol.
I like Mahogany but eb the celeb is cooler :-)
my name is okay, but since i was named after him*, i'll be ending it with me. my first born son was gonna be JayBee III, but dead that shit now. if i were going to change my name it would be malachai. that's actually the name of my alter ego.
LOL. My name was going to be Shalon Chantrell and my brother's name was going to be Kareem Abdul Brown. Luckily, cooler heads prevailed.
I ended up being named after my great grandmother because she died right before I was born. So my middle name is "Ella." I HATED it growing up because teachers always pronounced my first and middle together and it sounded soooo corny to me! I've grown accustomed to it now. LOL.
I don't know if I'd want to change it. I know when I'm on "travel" names are Maria and Sasha. Long story.
I used to hate my first name cuz It sounds like a white girl. My middle name just sounds country as hell.
But I looked up what my first name meant and it means "Deserving of great love". So now I like it lol.
But I will NEVER forgive my mother for the middle name. I don't know what she was thinking! lol
I never liked my first name. Mainly because when my parents went away from trips they could never find the magnet with my spelling...Tonya not Tanya and they would buy Tony and write in the A!!! UGH. I have always identified with my middle name Lee. Tomboy for life! Plus it is a tradition...1st girl's middle name is Lee. 5 generations going.
I would probably go with Harmony,Sahara or Savannah…You think Mahogany Essence is bad, my mom said she thought about naming me:
Dwaniqua…her name is Dawana
Yeah…..tha hell…LOL
My club name is Monica
My grandparents always called me Pocahontas
my mom was going with penelope... my dad wanted a unisex name. he obviously won but i've always wondered what kind of person i would've been as a penny :-)
when i was growing up, i used to detest my name. now? i've grown rather attached to it. but i did find out that my mom would've named me Derrell/Derrick.
its bad enough that people think i look like that dude from "Save the Last Dance".
growing up, I wanted to change my name since i couldn't fin no name tag stuff up in the stores.. but as i got older and learned that my name stands out from most people i grew to love iit.. it fits me... My name is d'lee N i'm PROUD!
i would want my name to be Sha'Zhoniquia Rick'Elle Jenkins....
hahahahahah sike
i kinda liked my name
Dakisha LaRae Lottie although i got teased at the DUH kisha part and the LOTTIE DOTTIE we likes to pahty!!!!
but the older i get the more i love my name...(ex nay on the DA)
i love my middle name tho...and a few people call me by my last name...
My mother planned to name me Kelly because she wanted me to have her initials...KLJ. But that was too "normal" so she decided to make up something. Growing up I wasn't crazy about my name because it was different and I didn't like the spelling. People would say it wrong and it's only 4 letters!
I like it now. Especially since it's more common and it's actually a word in other languages.
I couldn't imagine having another name. If I ever get married, my husband is gonna be real mad at me.
klj
My name is very common..Nicole. either that's someone's first name or everybody's middle name. I always wanted something unique like...Germany
Middle name, I love, it means beautiful in spanish, thanks to my puertorican grandfather
Your middle name is Shawntina! LoL
I love my name. Growing up, I never met another black person who had the name Kyle until I got to college. And it was a girl who shared the name with me!
I wouldn't change it. I love it. If I had to change it, I'd change it to Biff or Stetson. LMAO!
I'd change my name to something Roman or Japanese, like Alexander or Akira.
Thanks for the blog comment and the link. I like estelle and Cee-lo is a mean MF. The song has a mellow, motown, feel to it.
I always wanted a boy name
a strong one too
like Jake or Michael
figured thatd be the shit
wanted my middle name to be Charisma
i like me name.
but i kinda like boy names for girls
so, maybe for a week i would be michael, ryan, or james.
-1-
well i kinda like my name but if i ve to change i probbaly will go for....olive?
mahogany aint that bad, its sounds romantic ..ah ! lol
I like my name...never wanted to change it. It annoys me when people call me MYA instead of Mia(mee-ah).
Now my middle name?? I hated it for A LOOOONG time...I just grew to like it. Its different, kinda country ghetto. But its my mother's middle name and she didn't want to go with Nicole, so whatev.
How about my mother was going to name me Chamere?!?! WHA? I'm glad my grandmother stepped in...lol
I have no desire to change my name; I one point I was thinking of publishing under my mother's last name because it sounds more Latino than mine (which is an Italian last name) you know, so I'd be more marketable, but nah, I'll stick with mine.
i really dont know what otha name i would give myself.. i guess i just look like an eric.
lol Funny. Me and you have the same name. And like yours, my mother had to be creative and spell it differently. And my dad wanted to name me Mahogany instead but my Grandmother said there was this crazy man that lived up the street and she didn't want me to be named after him. And then in a final attempt to sway my father she said, "And what would her nickname be? Hog?"
@ Everyone... I like the name mahogany too... I just felt that Mahogany Essence was just being a little extra with the black pride
@Kyle - You knwo damn well my middle name is NOT shawtina...lol
@simplycomplex - funny you say that because one of my homegirls from high school's name is mahogany and we nicknamed her mahog-dog...lol
I honestly can't see myself being anything other than Autumn. It just wouldn't be right.
Love my real name, which is Diana, i didn't even know it was Diana for almost 22 years of my life, until i got my birth certificate...all along i had been calling myself, Diane. Now, i never use Diana...(named after Miz Ross). Hate my middle name, won't even go there, but since it was my grandmothers...i'm gonna respect and hold on it.
I always wanted to change my name to Lisa...why i have no idea but I did
@ The flyyest...I intend on naming my next daughter La Rae, hubbys middle name is La Rue.
Cool Post Eb
When I was younger having the first name Krishna was a curse. People called me Hare Krishna, Captain Krishna (a wrestler) and I hated it
As I got older and asked questions about why and found out who Krishna was (Highly praised Hindu God, very young and playful) I grew to love my name. I've only known two others with the name both men.
mahogany? kinda stripperish.
i like.

I wouldn't change my name for anything in the world! My father wanted to name me Tammi. I think I hate it more than I don't like him!
Everybody seems to think I have a beautiful name so...I doubt I'd change it.
[Just for the record tho', I happen to love the name Mahogany.]
Seeing how i'm named after my father and I hope to build a legacy with my name I don't think i'd change it...even if my first name combined with my last is country as all hell.
I have a very common name...Brittany. Now everyone calls me Britney Spears. I remember in 6th grade there were 4 girls named Brittany in my homeroom. My mom was going to name me Ciara. I'm glad she didn't, I like Brittany better.
