3 characters to make your perfect mate

Hey so sorry for all the relationship posts lately. When I get in the mode its hard to steer away. Anyway, I have been touch and go with the flu since Friday, and it has really been a time for me since I neva, eva eva get sick. I am feeling a lot better this morning but all weekend I have slept a lot more than I've been awake and had these crazy dreams that I was in sitcoms and movies as the significant other. So I decided to write a post about it today.

If you had to pick 3 TV or movie characters to make your ideal mate who would they be and why?

Now my first inclination for anyone who knows me would to hands down say Mr. Darius Lovehall. The renaissance, entrepreneurial spirit about him, his suave simple, far from overbearing sexiness about him. Oh, and the fact that he could put down the voon doon and euroba and all that is icing on the cake. Now after the poem on the first night I wouldn't have played hard to get like Nina did. I would have given him my number. But since she didn't and he took her address off a check she wrote at the record store, and then showed up at the crib unannounced, that would have been a red flag to me that he was a crazy stalker and I would have never let him in my house. So that situation would have never worked out in real life. Oh and also he smoked, and under absolutely no circumstances could I eva eva be with a man that smokes. I'm gagging right now just thinking about it.

***Remember the purpose is to really analyze the type of personalities that you want in a mate and not their looks, so don't be laughing at my choices blog world***

So here they are:

I know ya'll might think I'm crazy for this one, but my #1 is Martin Payne. Him and Gina always had a good time together. I am goofy as hell and a man that can keep me laughing as much as Martin had Gina, will always have my heart. Plus it really meant something when he took the time to be romantic because we all knew that wasn't really Martin's forte. Also, I like to have people over the crib on occasion. A little in house entertainment. Get a little taboo poppin' off or a spades tournament, or order the fight and have a fight party. But we all know some black folks that can out do their welcome. Now I can regulate if need be, but it would be nice to have my man be the one to tell everyone to "Get to steppin" when it's time for everyone to roll out...LOL!

Up next, Keith from Set it off. He showed Stony things she had never seen before. He was educated but didn't judge her because of where she lacked. Also, he wasn't the stiff, bougie, educated black man, he still had this distinguished swagger about him that didn't put him out of his comfort zone when going back to the hood. He was cultured, well-traveled. He could make all her dreams come true, buy her anything she wanted, but didn't force it on her, he let her find her own way. Oh, and the brother could cook too.

And last but not least, Mr. Huxtable. He was hands down for me, the best unconventional father I have ever seen. I can only hope that the father of my kids is half the father the he was to his. He didn't smother his children, he let them make mistakes, but was right there to catch them and made them analyze the situation so they would make better choices in the future. His family was his top priority always. He was a hopeless romantic, he was big on music, and simple things kept him happy.

So you have mine, now comment and tell me yours!

Great post!!

1. Clair Huxtable (Phylicia Rashad)-she was the ultimate wife and mother. She was beautiful, intelligent, witty, excellent self esteem, and she was successful.

2. Syd (Sanaa Lathan in Brown Sugar)-true homie/lover/friend. She was a hip hop head. That's major to me

3. Angela (Halle Berry in Boomerang)-strong and independent black woman. She let you know that she was to be treated like a queen and not the chick on the side.

This is a fab post! Mine would be:

1) Troy from Why Did I Get Married-He was not only attractive, but he motivated and prayed with a sista when she was down.

2) Julian Murch (the dread head) from The Best Man. He was poetic, loved helping the community, was caring and thoughtful....a lot like me.

3) And stayin' with the Cosby Show motif: Malcolm Jamal Warner. I have always loved his persona, vibe and talents. He is the prototype to me.

Vee March 4, 2008 at 9:19 AM

I'd Have to agree with you on Cliff Huxtable so he's number 1.

#2 Vin Diesel's Character in A Man Apart "Sean Vetter" He was a doting husband faithful and committed. I remember there was a part in the movie that he wouldn't even look at another girl from a distance. He only had eyes for his wife and he was very romantic. Plus, the whole cop thing is really sexy to me. (I grew in a family of military men and police officers I can't help it!)

#3 Idris Elba's character in Daddy's Little Girl's. He didn't have the best job or the best of luck but he was committed to taking care of, providing for and protecting his family. Not to mention he had a way about him that was smooth and sexy...GOTTA love it!

I have to throw one more in there though

#4 Terrence Howard's character from The Best Man. (Minus the whole ladies' man thing) He was the definition of smooth, fly, cooler than shade and lemonade on a hot summer's day, laid back and SEXY AS HELL! MM MM MM MM! I like a man that can make me feel hot and smoldering just by looking at me from across the room, he could definitely do that!

Eb the Celeb March 4, 2008 at 10:25 AM

Ms. Wright... although I love me some Idris... I can't deal with the baby mama drama that he had to deal with in that movie...

The Jaded NYer March 4, 2008 at 10:26 AM

okay...wow..so many possibilities my head is on the brink of exploding...

#1- now don't laugh at me but I've always always always had the biggest crush on John Cusack; all the characters he plays are a nice mix of quirky intellectual, pop culture buff and sweetie pie that I know I'd never get tired of; he's my perfect match personality-wise.

#2- Blair Underwood's character on Sex and the City; he was just so damn smooth and not at all arrogant. He was good around Miranda's son and apparently not too shabby in ze bedroom *wink wink*

A professional, too...damn, now I have to go home and watch those episodes again!

#3- you know, I hate smoking, too, and that stalking nonsense would have definitely raised a flag, but Darius Lovehall, definitely. I love me some artists- writers, poets, painters, photogs, musicians...the moodiness, the bursts of creativity...ok, I'm getting myself all worked up...

funny, when I was thinking of this list, I really couldn't add my usual cuties like Boris Kodjoe. Frankly, the characters he plays are too whiny and "damaged" for my taste! LOL!! But I'll take Boris the person anyday ;)

Ticia March 4, 2008 at 10:40 AM

Okay, I need to think abt this!!

I am not a movie girl... but I need to ponder on this!!!

1. I will take Sayid from Lost.. LOL -- He is smart, dangerous, and will kill for me! LOL--

2. Officer Troy, Why did I get married... OH... he made me melt in my seat!! Oh YES!!!

3. Boris, Brown Sugar... he was a puppy dog...cute and fun to cuddle..

TravelDiva March 4, 2008 at 10:58 AM

Good Post!

Cliff Huxtable - amazing, patient, understanding father, and a loving, dedicated, faithful, romantic husband.

Aiden on Sex and the City - madly in love, dedicated, sweet, funny, down to earth, committed and forgiving.

Denzel's character in The Great Debaters - strong, sexy, passionate, intelligent, activist, ready to fight for what he believed in.

Anonymous March 4, 2008 at 11:07 AM

Let's see.....

If we're not talking color I would have to say Aidan from Sex & The City, a little bit of Joan's friend in Girlfriends (Is his name Will?--->Loves me a cornball!), and maybe Morris in The Best Man (but not the cheating part)...He was crazy about his woman!

You had some good choices as well.

i.can't.complain. March 4, 2008 at 11:39 AM

jason-from jason's lyric. he was sensitive, sexy, but he could get gangsta if need be. and when he climbed up on that train track thing-ie, just 2 sit w/lyric....

frank lucas(denzel)-from american gangster- self-explanatory

forrest gump(tom hanks)-he stood by jenny through thick and thin. to see a man love a woman like that, in spite of her flaws... is absolutely amazing.

**bonus**
can this hybrid guy look like the r&b singer tank... or at least have his voice...

Brittany March 4, 2008 at 3:17 PM

I would really have to think about this a little more. I can't come off top like that.
I know I need sway like Denzel in any movie though. That's a given.

Anonymous March 4, 2008 at 3:50 PM

Going to have to decline... No idea... my minds clogged... lol...

Tiffany S. Jones March 4, 2008 at 3:59 PM

Alright, I gotta switch it up a lil' bit.
I happen to think that "Jake Briggance" in "A Time to Kill" was sexy beyond words. Matthew McConaughey is always sexy to me, maybe it is the Texas accent. I don't know. What can I say, I'm a sucker for a Southern Man.
The second would be "Lee Plenty" in "Hav Plenty" because he is just goofy and so am I. I think he would have me rolling at some of the craziest stuff. It also helps that the boy could write his ass off and I think we could bounce somethings off each other.
And finally, it would probably have to be Dap Dunlap from School Daze. The only thing that would have sort of irked me was his disdain for those lighter-hued bretheren. Other than that, he would be alright with me.

*** Lucky in Poetic Justice and Slim in The Wood get an honorable mention. Lucky for being a lil' sensitive and Slim for being silly.

The Flyyest March 4, 2008 at 4:11 PM

Martin Payne~ i agree wit u on that one!!!

Lucky(poetic justice)~ Sensitive side but will go off in a heartbeat.

Bunz(belly)~ I need a hood n*gga and one that will blow my back out!!!

LOL

swag_ambassador March 4, 2008 at 4:17 PM

LOL. well i mean you know who my ultimate nina moseley would be but im not gonna put her..

1. Mrs. Claire Huxtable was the epitome of a woman. hard working lawyer, mother, wife, sexy but subtle, a lil attitude, a lotta swagger, and her smooth jazzy voice could make a bad day at work so much better when u get home.

2.I would say Gina from martin. not only was she down for her man, she went to the depths to be there for him. She was funny, hella hella sexy, and provided the other ingredients to make a postive relationship. Yea they quaralled, but who doesnt. in the end, she was great.

3. syd shaw brown sugar.. she was a hard worker, she was sexy, and had drive about herself.. proved she could be ya best friend thru thick and thin

@ 12kyle: bruh, you are one helluva blogger. Your comments are d*mn near like good post. Not many male bloggers here. Welcome.

@ ebonne:

"...and since we all came from a woman
Got our name from a woman and our game from a woman
I wonder why we take from our women
Why we rape our women, do we hate our women?
I think it's time to kill for our women
Time to heal our women, be real to our women
And if we don't we'll have a race of babies
That will hate the ladies, that make the babies
And since a man can't make one
He has no right to tell a woman when and where to create one
So will the real men get up
I know you're fed up ladies, but keep your head up..." - That Boy

I said that to say that all my black women are precious.

Anonymous March 4, 2008 at 6:10 PM

For me it'd have to be:

Anthony Mackie in She Hate Me. Simply because he was a man torn apart but willing to go the EXTRA and I mean exxxxxtra mile to do what he had to do to get his woman.

Lamman Rucker in Why Did I Get Married. If you saw the movie, you know why.

Patrick Swayze in Dirty Dancing. Because he stood up for what he wanted and told Daddy "Nobody puts Baby in the corner." LOL.

WrkNProgress March 4, 2008 at 6:45 PM

Martin could definetly get it from any show he played it.

Darrin Dewitt Henson from soulfood.

50 cent from Get Rich or Die trying (I just love Him!)

A Beautifulstruggle March 4, 2008 at 7:29 PM

ohhh, I have to think on this one and get back to you.

Mizrepresent March 4, 2008 at 9:20 PM

1. Idriss Elba - Daddy's little girls...i love a man who loves his gurls...and family, and willing to put it down, or out for their sake.

2. D Henson - Soulfood - he was just so sexy and tough, a combination i love.

3. Denzel Washington - in just about anything, and real life, cuz this man is the GOODS...and loves his black/brown woman...who could ask for more?

Great post!

Anonymous March 5, 2008 at 12:14 AM

Girl.....this is definitely a thinker but I may be able to keep the list to three.

Gotta say that my number one is Darius Lovehall. Being that is my favorite film of all time, I've watched it plenty of times to fully dissect it. Although you thought Darius was a stalker by getting Nina's info off the check, I find that intriguing and VERY pro-active. He was very artistic and would balance my logical, left-brained self. And the fact that his "member" (gonna keep it PG for the public) can speak a sista's name doesn't hurt in the least.

2. Andre Ellis from Brown Sugar. He LOVED hip-hop and knew how to make it in corporate America without cramping too much of his style. His best friend was a chic so he knows how the female psyche works and he follows his heart. He gave up the comfy, corporate lifestyle to get rugged and dirty with the real music.

3. Kenny from Soul Food...he was hard-working and had no problem being the bread-winner and head of his household. I would love to find a man that can hold his own with me and put his foot down without me having to make any of the decisions. He would be cool if I did but had no problem leading the family. And he was very active in his son's life. I would like my son to have that type of male figure in his life because he would be on a good path with Kenny.

Skoolboi Krush March 5, 2008 at 12:34 AM

I am going to have to get back to you on this one. I can't think!

Rich Fitzgerald March 5, 2008 at 1:12 AM

12Kyle hit it on the head with the first two, but I'd have to pick up an Oprah for #3 due to the wisdom and ability to make moves happen.

Spelangel March 5, 2008 at 1:24 AM

oooh, im going to have to think about this one for a bit...i really like your choices...i had forgotten all about keith in Set it Off..and i used to HEART that movie...

Vee March 5, 2008 at 8:37 AM

LOL yeah the baby moms was tripping... i didnt think about it terms of him having a baby mama (cause i don't deal with men who have children--that's part of whats in my man-box) I was thinking of it in terms of...if we were all in a rut and he was my husband and those were my girls as well.

mp1 March 5, 2008 at 8:57 AM

Number one has got to be Claire. She had the class, knowledge and the looks. That's the epitome of a Renaissance black woman.

Number two would be Whitley from A Different World. Her swag, sarcasm and intelligence was crazy. And she played the role of the Southern Belle to a tee.

Number three would be Sid from Brown Sugar. I'm a sucka for Sanaa and that work ethic was just sick.

On another note, I made a few changes to the blog. Check me out @ eriethoughts.blogspot.com

Suite B March 5, 2008 at 12:22 PM

2 Years ago if someone would have asked me this question I’m sure I would have said:

DARIUS LOVEHALL (Larenz Tate, Love Jones) – Who didn’t like that character in Love Jones. Something about the way he could spit those words out and when he cooked breakfast…damn.

CLIFF HUXTABLE (Bill Cosby, The Cosby Show) – I love a man who knows how take care of home first

LUCKY (Tupac Shakur, Poetic Justice) – I love a little thug. Not the kind like the stand on the street on corner and occasionally slap they chick, but the kind that get with a man if they ever step their chick wrong.

But know that I’m engaged my guy fits the description below – and the funny thing is, he knows it and is quite alright with it, and so am I!!! I never it saw this one coming but I'm glad he came my way

George Jefferson (The Jeffersons)
Cliff Huxtable (The Cosby Show)
Larry David (Curb Your Enthusaiam)

Brionne March 5, 2008 at 7:00 PM

#1 Dre Ellis from Brown Sugar: He reminds me sooo much of my best friend. I love his swag and his drive and passion for what he does. I'm glad that he finally recognized that what he needed was right in front of him. Now, if I could just knock some sense into the BFF *wink wink*

#2 "Q" from Making The Band: I know he's not technically a character, but hey... He seems so sincere and genuine when it comes to his relationship with Dawn. I love a man who is sensitive to my feelings.

#3 "Mr. Big" from Sex and the City: Now the majority of what this man was about does not appeal to me, but I love a man with sense of mystery. Plus, he seemed so unphased by a lot of BS... I like that.

Miss Snarky Pants March 5, 2008 at 8:24 PM

Another great post Eb...Here's my answer:

1. 50 cent for all his thugliciousness :-).

2. Rickey Smiley for his creativity and humor.

[and your final pick] Mr.Huxtable for being a loving husband and a cool father.

Muze March 5, 2008 at 9:03 PM

WOW how'd i miss THIS post?

i'll have to come back and read responses seeing as though i'm supposed to be working, lol. but i'll give you my three.

1. will in fresh prince- love a guy that can keep me laughing.

2. DJ in stomp the yard- that swag was undeniable. loves it.

3. mohinder in heroes- brilliant minds turn me on.

Queen of My Castle March 5, 2008 at 10:25 PM

WOW!!! Loved this post, and it shows that you really put some thought into it as well.

1. Ryan in The Notebook. He knew how to handle her even when she was being a brat and allowed her to be herself.

2. Heathcliff Huxtable because he was always and forever in love with his wife and they had fun together and subtle sexy moments and endless smiles.

3. Marting Payne because he always made Gina laugh and most times kept it real about how he felt, even if it would hurt her feelings.
