Renaissance Black Woman...

Yup... that's me and the name of my blog. I came across the term from my favorite movie of all time. Love Jones. There's a scene where Nina Mosley, played by Nia Long where she says to Darius Lovehall, played by Larenz Tate, "So you're a renaissance black man, music, poetry, photography." So I took the term from there. Taking the meaning as someone who has interests in a lot of things (creative and otherwise) and an unprecedented vigor for life, which I feel exemplifies me and decided to adopt the term for me and my blog. On my last post although, I got a comment from an anonymous person (but I did feel compelled to find out where they were and checked my traffic tracker and found out its Ormond Beach, Florida) who said:

"Stumbled onto your blog quite accidentally and I don't recall ever reading of a more self-absorbed queen before. I'm just wondering what a "Renaissance Black Woman" is good for?"

Excuse me... Self-absorbed? So it made me reflect. To be self-absorbed is to be so engaged in your own thoughts, beliefs, and interests... that you shut everyone else's out. I dont think I do that at all. I mean this is MY blog so I am going to talk about things happening in my life, or experiences that I am having but for the most part I believe my blog is an open forum. If you look at my first post, its about all women bettering themselves, and isnt self-absorbed at all.

Then, what do you mean what is a "Renaissance Black Woman" good for. Are you implying because I am strong, independant, and multi-dimensional that I cant be good for anything. That because my life doesnt revolve around some man that I cant be good for anything. I do hope Mr. Ormond Beach visits my blog again and will give a little more insight on exactly what you meant by your comment.

Also, to my fellow readers, if you got a different interpretation from that comment please let me know. Maybe I am only viewing it from one angle, and you see something else.

This isn't even my blog and I'm offended by Mr. Ormond Beach!WTF?! And I find your response quite eloquent...cause you can probably imagine how mine would've went.LOL

Anyway...Happy Holidays, hun! Hope Santa was good to you.

I saw the comment myself. I didn't think too much of it. Maybe the person wanted the term defined for his/her own good.

Well, you definitely defined it.

That was a good respone I would of had some other words for him myself.

I don't like anonymous people who dont have the heart to say who they are. Not really worth wasting your energy on someone that is not gonna be accountable.

You handled that quite well Eb! I would have put that cat on blast!! Ya heard, on blast for being a dumbass - you can't go into a blog and call someone self-absorbed. That's like reading a magazine and saying "this mag is filled with articles" Obviously you don't pay attention to the ads, the op/eds, and so on and so forth - Tell that guy to get over himself
btw - Thanks for the Holiday wishes! Your other posts are hilarious!!

@ everybody - I started to give him the angry black woman response... but I'm trying to be a better person... Thanks for having my back though... cuz you know I could have went off...lol

WOW!!! The nerve! I'm so with Kiki on being offended for you and definitely agree with Rashan...this ANONYMOUS person does not even deserve your energy at all.

I HATE anonymous commentors. Personally I usually think it's someone you know, who doesn't have the balls to tell you what they really think about you.

That's a prime example of a person who doesn't have s**t else better to do with their time.

We all know misery loves company!!

Minerva Exertion December 28, 2007 at 11:52 AM

HA! I agree with Opinionated Diva on this one. That's exactly why I disabled anonymous comments. If Minerva can say what she wants to say, so can you. Be the better person and do you EB.

Oh yeah, thanks for visiting my spot from time to time. I'm adding you today. AGGIE PRIDE!!!

Oh Lord, it seem's I've offended the masses!

Self Asorbed? It certainly appears that way! Go back and count the "I's", or here's some of your statements: There's "which I feel exemplifies me", and there's "Sometimes I am hilarious", then "I embrace all that is me and love all of it", and "I have to say sorry to all my readers that have been worried about me"(as if you knew some were?) and finally, "But I could care less who likes me". So yes, dear, you're self absorbed. It's also likely that your employer's HR folks' see some maturity issues as well.

I'll rephrase my question "What's a Black Renaissance woman good for" to "what's the significance of a black renaissance woman"? While you briefly mentioned your faith, I didn't see any other mention of civic or charity participation. Therefore, it still appears to be about your "multidimensional" self. Hallejuah!

Certainly your fellow posters won't see any evidence of self-absorption, they too have blogs about "themselves".

Two last things: I may not be a "he" as some have pronounced, and your traffic tracker is incorrect; I'm 800 miles west of Ormand Beach, Florida.

Eb the Celeb December 28, 2007 at 8:59 PM

OK... I just finished shadowboxing in my living room and I still have to Wooooosahhh so that this comes out as unself-absorbed as I can make it be...

@ Jim... if that is even your real name... because you ended with you may not be a "He" but what "She" has the name Jim, and I totally agree with everyone else that you must be a coward because you give your name since I now no longer accept anonymous comments but you make your profile private.

Either way, like I said before this is MY, MY, MY, MY blog... you dont have to like it.... and if I am so self-absorbed why the hell do you keep bringing your ass back to read all my posts?

You think your so smart with putting in quotes things that I have stated on this blog but point be told if you look at the post before the one where I said "sorry if I worried any of my readers" you would know that they left comments stating that they hoped I was alright. Why would I assume people were worried about me. I do have a life... even though it seems you obviously dont.

And you said I have maturity issues but your the one going on people's blogs commenting negatively. I think you are the one who is immature. Didnt your mother teach you when you were a child if you dont have anything nice to say dont say anything at all.

I did not ask you nor force you to read my blog, and I am going to keep on writing whatever the hell I feel like writing. I didnt know that there were rules to blogging... that you couldnt write about yourself, or better yet... hell write about whatever the hell you wanted to for that matter. So please enlighten me on the rules of blogging JIM.

And why do I need to mention my charity work. See that's the problem with this world. Everytime everyone does something they are looking for someone to pat them on the back or get a standing ovation. Why should I use my blog to talk about all the charity work I do. The things I do, I do for the people that will benefit. Not to get recognition for it. But if you must know I help out with several athlete foundations. I help them hold events that raise money for many children's charities including feed the children, prevent child abuse america, and the boys and girls clubs. I also deal with athletes that feel the same way I do and dont go broadcasting everytime they give back. They have raised thousands and thousands of dollars for these charities and not once looked for recognition from anyone, and they wont... as I will never look for it either.

Ultimately, I think I've spent enough time addressing someone who is so simple minded and obviously has nothing else better to do.

I am Me... and I could care less if you like it or not. You have no write to judge me or anyone else who comments, by implying that they agree with me because they only write about themselves as well. Only God can judge me!!!

oh and 1 more thing... dont send praises to the Lord if you cant spell... Hallelujah!!!

Well sis, you did say "I do hope Mr. Ormond Beach visits my blog again and will give a little more insight on exactly what you meant by your comments"!

The [In]Urbane Goddess December 29, 2007 at 6:37 AM

I am in total agreement with the comment that blogs are all about being self absorbed. I truly don't understand why one would visit a blog and criticize. I do know this, I would delete such bullshit and promptly move on. What more would you expect from a self absorbed individual? :-)
