Whack idea of bloggers setting up blind dates

So the past couple times I have went out to hang at bars there has been a couple there that was on their first blind date. It started the last game of the NBA finals. Every freaking bar in NYC was packed and we headed out right as the game was starting, so the chances of getting a seat anywhere were pretty slim. We finally decided that there is no way Dave & Buster's would be packed. We got there just in time to squeeze into the last couple seats at the bar to watch the game. I was sitting next to this spanish guy who was having a drink alone. We started chatting and he told me he was waiting on his date. It was their first time going out and a mutual friend set them up. Low and behold a black chick walks in...lol. I know me and my friends probably ruined their first date because we were loud yelling at the TV, and still talking to them all the while. Hell it was a bar, everybody talks to everybody.

Now I have been to Hudson River Cafe, and a couple other places since where I have been sitting next to couple on their first blind date. I never ever thought that I could do it. I would never do one of those dating sites either... but I thought it might be fun to have my blog fam set it up. Then I said nevermind and came to my senses because the whole idea is just weird to me but I still wanted to share how whacky my mind works just in case anyone else wants to be the guinea pig, and tell about the journey on their blog.

So here is how I was thinking it would work.

1. Blogger posts characteristics of the type of guy/gal he/she likes
2. Readers comment with a brief description of a guy/gal they know in the area they feel would be a perfect match
3. Blogger decides which of those people he/she would like to go on a blind date with
4. Reader alert their friend but doesn't make them aware of the person's blog. (Just in case the date is a nightmare we don't want the person to read about how bad it was after)
5. Couple goes on blind date
6. Blogger writes about how it went

So whose in for trying it? I damn sure ain't... but it might be fun for others in the blogosphere!

HAPPY HOUR TONIGHT AT COVO... HOPE TO SEE YOU THERE!!!

lol... girl you are a nut. You're gonna have people getting set up with convicts and sex offenders...Wait? how is that different from any other random meeting and consequent date.

Carry on :)

LOL @ pajnstl. Right, right.....it does sound like fun, though. But yes....I shall be on the sidelines readin' posts. That song "Words" by Anthony David and India on your page has made my day. I music on blogs ain't THAT bad. Haaaa, have a beautiful Wednesday, sis.

MP July 23, 2008 at 8:47 AM

LOL That sounds like a good idea. I would love the read the posts after the date from hell!

Edirin July 23, 2008 at 8:47 AM

sounds like fun...i wud do it, im open for trying new things, but i would be too scared, not scared as in "oh no,what is she gonna think of me" scared, more like "oh damn, theres alot of crack heads out there" scared.

and yes, ive had bad experiences..

and also, people are not what they seem and i live in the UK.

this reminds me of the last matchmaker i did...came back and haunted me..anyway thats 4 another day.

Edirin July 23, 2008 at 8:49 AM

oh yh ebb, feeling the banner..its very creative!

Edirin July 23, 2008 at 8:49 AM

Monique July 23, 2008 at 9:39 AM

I'll pass on the blind dates. Been one only to discover he was gay and not that into me after all. We met online (at the urging of my mother to setup an online dating profile) and I haven't been back sense.

The Jaded NYer July 23, 2008 at 9:44 AM

oh no no no... I'm gonna pass as well... blind dates are that last frontier that I just promised myself to NEVER cross!

but of course I'll be the first one reading the post about the date afterwards!! lol

RealHustla July 23, 2008 at 10:58 AM

Nahhhh! But I'd love to read about someone else's experiences.

Young woman on a journey July 23, 2008 at 11:16 AM

Too bad i'm in DC. i would totally be up for it. I'm all for trying new things and you know there is usually a good story to tell at the end of the night. lol.

you are crazy though!

The new banner is definitely hot!

Eb the Celeb July 23, 2008 at 11:22 AM

@patrice - and I aint taking the blame for any madness...lol

@f&f - your alright over there...lol

@monique - yeah that would traumatize me too

@Nina - go on head girl... post it on your blog and get it going...

@ young woman - the key is to find other bloggers in the area... E is in MD and Dave is in DC... there are a lot of DC bloggers... you guys should hook each other up...fo real fo real!

I've never been on a blind date. I don't like people setting me up because they dont' know what I like b/c I don't know what I like. I just know what I like when I see it.

THE PRINCESS "CC" July 23, 2008 at 11:29 AM

LOve this idea...though I am in a relationship, so I am out, if you would have caught me just two months ago, I would DEFINITELY be IN IN IN IN.....

This is so creative!

Charles July 23, 2008 at 12:19 PM

Hahaha....thats a negative....

Eb the Celeb July 23, 2008 at 12:22 PM

@southern gal - I feel you... my friends always think they know my type and pick guys out in the club an I'm like ewe... so they stopped trying...lol

@charles - you dont count... your taken!

Jazzy July 23, 2008 at 12:35 PM

I've been on blind dates before...set up by people who supposedly luv me...and dude still turned out to be some kind of suspect.

The very last thing I would want is a blind date arranged by strangers...idontthinkso!

My nosy ass would love to read about someone else's story though! lol

She Draws July 23, 2008 at 12:48 PM

....Eb...you know I'm crazy and would be more than willing to do something like this...but I have to have my round Dreamy... in the background just incase something pops off...."put your hands in the air...and we can all go home safely... LOL!

Melody.Darlene July 23, 2008 at 1:03 PM

omg please let me know if you get someone to do it! lolol! that would be a good read!

kit von b. July 23, 2008 at 1:05 PM

Stew July 23, 2008 at 1:28 PM

i would do it, but i am pretty sure no one knows anyone in my area. i am kinda in the middle of nowhere

Ms. Go Getter July 23, 2008 at 1:56 PM

I have never been on a blind date because the thought of meeting up with someone and having to endure some considerable length of time with them whether I like them or not is scary lol. Now I would be all game for reading someone's blog who went through with it!!!

soumynona July 23, 2008 at 2:52 PM

Eb,eb, eb - the relentless pursuit of love and romance continues I see - even if its for someone else. Well, unfortunately I wont be able to attend but I would guess that you would be open to meeting people blindly => Hell for all he knew, the little spaniard prob thought you were his girl for a moment =>

Sista GP July 23, 2008 at 2:53 PM

Good idea. All blind dates are not bad. Hubby and I met on a blind date and have been together ever since.

swag_ambassador July 23, 2008 at 2:59 PM

LOL.. not hatnin fa me.. but its a funny idea.. I mean how would it work anyways, for, say, a cali boy to meet up wit someone in the A or somethin LOL

Eb the Celeb July 23, 2008 at 3:04 PM

@ Stew - where are ya?

@soumy - you always seems to pop by in at the strangest times.. and he was flirting with me and my girls the whole time...lol

@swag - you wouldn't meet someone in the A silly... someone in the A will hook you up with someone they know in your area or you link up with bloggers in your area and you each hook each other up

Dee July 23, 2008 at 3:07 PM

I don't see anything wrong with blind dates and online dating and such
The guys I've met through other "conventional" avenues have not been worth my time--as they say "you have to kiss a lot of frogs"

my husband to be is someone I met online and we would never have run into each other any other way
I'd do it all over again

Unknown July 23, 2008 at 3:12 PM

Oh heck naw...lol

I ain't down for that one either Eb! That might work for some but I have to pick my own blessings, although I must admit, there is some fine sistas out in this blogisphere... Including you! :0)

Anonymous July 23, 2008 at 4:01 PM

haha... nice, it soulds good in theory, but i dont know if it'll work out. did you ever get the maxwell cd i sent? i didnt get a response, so i guess yes, but i didnt know. and yea, have fun at the happy hour. im sure you will. later

MsKayotic July 23, 2008 at 5:19 PM

It sounds great. It sounds like a good idea but there is something about it... nope, not gonna do it.

I'm all down for meeting people but there are some quirks about me that I just have to have and folks aren't gonna be able to find for me.

Ms.Honey July 23, 2008 at 5:40 PM

Dang I can't wait to hear the stories from this..too bad I'm not close enough to come to happy hour...one weekend though..one weekend :)

CapCity July 23, 2008 at 5:45 PM

I'd do it! Just for the writing material - if nuffin' else! The comments are pretty funny, too - especially STOOPID T-Dawg's:

EB_MATCH.COM

LMAO!!!

But, er, ummm #4 - won't their blogs get put on blast AFTER they return home & write about it?

Either way - if u set up Eb_Match I'll be a test case. LOL! I've done a bit of online dating & I've been set up with blind dates by friends & colleagues - not all bad...no "magic", but interesting experiences...
lemme go get ready & not flake out on ya, tonight;-).

Anonymous July 23, 2008 at 6:22 PM

That's a dope plan, but I've learned that I'm no good at being a match maker....people just end up in love - heart broken and mad at me :-)

...But it'd be interesting to read about.

CC Solomon July 23, 2008 at 7:23 PM

blind dates are always scary. I do the online dating thing and even though I get to see their picture, you really don't know how accurate it is until you meet them. And from my experience- men lie just like women. I got two dates this weekend with "online" guys- scary! However in the long run I know too many success stories to get scared off by the online dating thing so I guess the risk is worth it! But this method you propose is a little too scary for me!

Anonymous July 23, 2008 at 8:38 PM

Why did that seem super complicated to me? Could be that I'm only 3 weeks from finals so I'm overanalyzing everything.

I'd be game for a blind date. Wait! I'm retired for the summer! Lol.

IntrospectiveGoddess July 23, 2008 at 8:56 PM

I would do it...But not that many people read my blog so I dont know if it would work but it is something I would consider...

shine July 23, 2008 at 9:22 PM

lol. i learned my lesson.

n0days0ff July 23, 2008 at 9:25 PM

scary idea. but kudos for thinking of it. glade you didnt go through with it. people are crazy out here.

kayellejaye July 23, 2008 at 10:43 PM

I'm pretty adventurous. I've been on 2 blind dates. Sight unseen. I'd do it again for shits and giggles.

I've also gone out with a couple of bloggers, but they make me more nervous than regular blind dates.

The F_Uitlist July 23, 2008 at 10:46 PM

Ha this is pretty good idea. I'm clearly not able to do it but I do know some single men

YBW July 23, 2008 at 10:47 PM

Hmmm could be interesting if I were some where larger than Nasty Nashville. Thanks for the blog love Eb. I need to add you to my blogroll. MY surgery is in the morning. :) boo gallstones yay EB!
