5 Songs in heavy rotation right now

1. Recently had some chats with a couple people and even read some articles about how Independent black women get in their own way of finding love, how most independent black women will be single their entire lives, or have to go to another race to find love. Then Ne-Yo releases this beautiful track Miss Independent, and made me realize that being an Independent black woman is NOT a bad thing and that men need to man up and not be intimidated by us.

Lyrics that stuck out to me:

There is something about a woman that want you but don't need you
She got her own thing that's why i love her
There's something about a woman that can do for herself
I look at her and it makes me proud
There is something so sexy about a woman that don't even need my help
There's something about her

2. Marsha Ambrosius is gearing up to release her first solo album after parting from Floetry. The first official single is CoStar. I have had this joint on repeat since I heard it. It's so sultry, the live instruments are really what does it for me. I'm so glad this aspect is coming back to R&B. I mean I love the banging hip hop tracks that Mary J. Blige uses, but there is nothing like hearing the piano, saxophone, trumpet, and snare of the drum throughout a song. Actually, I don't even know if real instruments were used on this track. Production has gotten so good that you can make some of these sounds with a piano... but if you can't tell... that's a good thing too.

3. This next song I know for sure they are in the studio and using live instruments because it doesn't even sound like a finished recording. It sounds like they were just playing around in the studio and came out with a hit. I love it... Fantasia Broke.

4.OK, so all the men are going to think I am crazy for this next song, and I am not one of the kind of chicks that would actually do this. I never have and I hope I never have a man do me that wrong that I would have the urge to but either way I love Bust your windows by Jazmine Sullivan.. Crazy because the full version of the song hasn't been released yet so I've had this one minute snip on repeat feenin' to hear the rest of the song. Click HERE to sample her album. The first song is Bust your windows.

5. Last but not least is this hot new ballad by Brandy Fall. I am so excited by this new project. She has been really taking her time with it the past year so I'm hoping she'll continue with beautiful songs like this one. She fell off in my eyes with her last 2 albums, but I'm hoping since this song sounds like Almost doesn't count, that she will go back to her roots with the Brandy that I used to love.

What songs are ya'll feeling right now?
and sorry Kyle for not posting any Hip Hop for you but you know I'm an R&B head.

Sidebar... why are these little white girls messing up one of my favorite Teedra Moses songs "Backstroke." The madness has to stop!!! They don't even have a backstroke yet...WTH!

NeYo has done it again. I love his new song. I can't wait for his album to drop. He is bringing male R&B back.

I like Marsha's song from the first time I heard it.

Just listened to Fantasia's song. Don't care for it. Lyrics are good but something is just not right.

The snippet of Jazimine Sullivan is no longer available. Now I got to go search for it. I'm looking forward to hearing her album. Need You Bad is on constant rotation.

Love love love Brandy and love the new song. I still bump the "Full Moon" cd. Even though that cd went platinum it was highly slept on. She released the wrong songs as singles.

Anonymous July 22, 2008 at 12:27 PM

I'm so feeling Costar and have it as my Myspace profile song. I'm about to check out those other songs you have linked and head over to your music blog.

I heard snippets of Noel Gourdin's CD. Gonna go cop it today. Sounds good. So that's what I'm feeling right now.

1/3 July 22, 2008 at 1:01 PM

TravelDiva July 22, 2008 at 2:03 PM

I like the new banner.

hmmm, on the frivolous end--that PCD song "When I grow up" I cannot get out of my head. LOL.

FeFe Johnson July 22, 2008 at 2:08 PM

HEY YOU!
Ummm I agree with Ne-Yo when it comes to the sexiness of Independent women but I also peeped the duality that exists. You see there are some females that take it to its absolute extreme. Sure they are independent and don't NEED their man, but they WANT their man. The problem is that they become so guarded/secure in the independent frame of mind that they don't know how or refuse to let their man be a man. I'm not saying that these women should go out of their way and be extra submissive or anything, but if dude wants to take a reasonable amount of control sometimes then he should be allowed to...ok I've officially OD'ed for no reason.
good post ma

Stew July 22, 2008 at 2:34 PM

my number 1 right now:

Young L.A. - Ain't I (Remix) feat. Young Dro & T.I.

Dopelikelouboutins July 22, 2008 at 3:07 PM

Seeings Sounds is still on repeat.
Teenage Love Affair Remix
In the morning by Ledesi
Take a Bow
..that's all I can think of off the top of my head.

Eb the Celeb July 22, 2008 at 3:09 PM

thx everyone for the love on the new banner

@southern - I just change the link to the sampler... youtube is on this piracy rampage... everything I tried to click on says its unavailable... lucky for me I have the mp3

@da vinci - where the heck have you been hiding... and I dont know why men think they being an independent woman makes for a woman not being able to let a man be a man... big misconception... and men need to get over themselves

Dee July 22, 2008 at 3:54 PM

re "there is nothing like hearing the piano, saxophone, trumpet, and snare of the drum throughout a song"

so true
I love to hear lush sounds behind the soloist/performers
but something else I also love is hearing some fresh, original lyrics that aren't cliche-ridden and trite, and done oh so many times before.

Crys.C July 22, 2008 at 4:33 PM

(BTW: The banner is hot!!)

I have Dwele and N.E.R.D in rotation right now.
But I can't get that damn Ryan Leslie song Addiction out my head.

LOL @ the vid. Homegirl in the yellow is going hard.

La July 22, 2008 at 4:36 PM

I looooove that new Brandi song.

For some reason I have been on a serious old school kick lately. Think Sam Cooke, Etta James, Donny Hathaway...

Monie July 22, 2008 at 4:43 PM

I'm gonna listen to these when I get home. Lately, I have been blasting:

Slow Motion - Karina Pasian

Mo Better - Raheem Devaughn

I Kissed A Girl - Katy Perry

I Decided - Solange

Let The Beat Build - Lil Wayne

Real weird choices LOL but that's honestly what I'm loving right now.

Tiffany S. Jones July 22, 2008 at 4:59 PM

The top five I'm into right now are:

1. Lalah Hathaway - What Goes Around
2. Leela James - My Joy
3. Raheem DeVaughn - Love Drug
4. Talib Kweli feat. Jean Grae - Say Something
5. Donald Lawrence feat. Daryl Coley - When Sunday Comes

What a diverse bunch that is. Lalah Hathaway's new CD, "Self-Portrait" and Raheem DeVaughn's "The Love Experience" are must haves. If you don't buy any other CDs this year, pick up those two.

Tom_Gurl July 22, 2008 at 5:09 PM

I'm sooooo loving Marsha's track..I can't wait for her album!!

The whole Lil Wayne is on constant rotation...particularly Mr Carter & Let The Beat Build.

Ms.Honey July 22, 2008 at 5:31 PM

Beautifully.Conjured.Up July 22, 2008 at 8:10 PM

I don't know if someone said this already, but I'm feeling Jazmine Sullivan's new song...I love the mix of her voice and the reggae beats...

...now I need a summer love to go with it :)

clnmike July 22, 2008 at 9:27 PM

1-Ne-Yo never lets me down, as far as that independent woman, if a man doesnt feel needed he is not sticking around, why should he?

Men want to feel like they are helping or fixing things, that part of our "need". A lot of these women do not know how to even fake that.

4-Jazimine Sullivan That aint even close to being funny, lol. Seriously though.

Eb the Celeb July 22, 2008 at 9:44 PM

yeah... as far as full albums.. dwele and raheem are getting heavy rotation

And I keep hearing about this Noel Gourdin cat so I am going to check him out too

@Smarty - giiiiirrrrlll love drug is the bizness...

@beautifully.conjured - I've just about given up hope on a summer love... next week its going to be august... i'm rearranging the roster for a fall love now... would have been nice to have a summer love though so I feel ya

@clnmike - ha... i was waiting on one of the men to comment on that bust your windows joint...lol

clnmike July 22, 2008 at 9:59 PM

"..... and made me realize that being an Independent black woman is NOT a bad thing and that men need to man up and not be intimidated by us."

Eb the Celeb July 22, 2008 at 10:17 PM

@clnmike - dont start none wont be none...lol

@kyle - yes that was just for you so stop muting my music when you come her now...lol

Eb the Celeb July 22, 2008 at 10:35 PM

@clnmike - OK here we go.. exactly what I have been trying to say about independent woman was said beautifully over at

http://mcarroll4716.blogspot.com/

"It's a sheitload of women out here that walk like they're worth a million bucks and as a result, too good to talk to "yo azz". But lots of times it's only a cover-up for other issues of self-worth that they have. And then there are women that are doing well for themselves but still maintain the humility and social skills to be easy to talk to, down-to-earth, and have something worthwhile to talk about aside from a bunch of trivial bowlshyt...."But Ne-Yo neatly describes the type of woman that turns me on and impresses me... And yes it is something about a woman that has her stuff together and doesn't need you but chooses to spend time with you because she genuinely enjoys you and sees as much in you as you do in her.

here is a small snippet... but go to his blog to read the entire post on the ne-yo song

THANK YOU MIkesee for that post!

tris. July 22, 2008 at 10:48 PM

Look at you hating on the white chillins. Shameful.

I like all kinds of music, but don't have a favorite and the ones I do listen to, I normally don't know who the artist is...Is that bad? I'm just not that vested. I will say that I am interested in hearing Brandy's new song, strickly basised on your recommendation. That's how much I appreciate you.
