Removing people from your circle

This was brought on by PCD's post today. She wrote about having to remove some people from your life and I immediately thought about this little diddy.

Don't spend major time with minor people. If there are people in your life that continually disappoint you, break promises, stomp on your dreams, too judgmental, have different values and don't have your back during difficult times...that is not a friend.

To have a friend, be a friend. Sometimes in life as you grow, your friends will either grow or go. Surround yourself with people who reflect values, goals interests and lifestyle.

When I think of any of my successes, I am thankful to GOD from whom all blessings flow, and to my family and friends that enrich my life.

Over the years my phone book has changed because I changed for the better. At first you think you're going to be alone, but after a while new people show up in your life that make your life so much sweeter and easier to endure.

Remember what your elders used to say, "Birds of a feather flock together. If you're an eagle, don't hang around chickens: Chickens Can't Fly!

I love this Eb, great advice, granny was right!

Still Patrice June 2, 2008 at 11:04 PM

I've heard that before! I was just talking with my girlfriend friday saying that I don't want to be the one in my crew who is doing the best. I need some friends that are doing better than I am, that will give me something to aspire too.

Preach! I have been cleaning house recently so I can definitely relate.

I want to be up there with the eagles so the chickens have to go!

Those words are very true. As you grow you change and sometimes your old friends don't make the best friends. there is nothing wrong with growing apart.

Darius T. Williams June 3, 2008 at 8:55 AM

So true! You just preached your first sermon. The doors of the church are open!

"At first you think you're going to be alone, but after a while new people show up in your life that make your life so much sweeter and easier to endure." I most surely did need these words this morning ma'am. Over the past couple of years I have lost many friends, because I refused to stay in one place in life so I had to leave them where they were. It's hard sometimes, because some of them I really did love. I just couldn't let me life waste away when I was ready to soar.

PCD (Pretty Circle Drawer) June 3, 2008 at 9:39 AM

these are great! it gets hard because when you find yourself in this position, you feel a little bad. even if the other person was acting a fool. its sad when you have to be the one to call it out and shake things up..but the show must go on...and i obviously have allowed too many chickens into my life. thanx! (i love the first and last quotes)

I was going to do a post similar to this. Still am.

I think there comes a point in life where it comes time for some people to 'go' out of your life. I'm at a period like that now.

OG, The Original Glamazon June 3, 2008 at 10:42 AM

Yep, I went through a changing of the guard of friends a few years back, a good friend I thought would always be my girl. But time told a different story, but that has always been my motto for friends if you can't grow you gotta go.

Being a friend is hard work sometimes you have to tell the truth and sometimes the truth hurts but friends know that its out of love and only to help each other not to hurt or clown.

Great Post!

major time on minor people....I love it. I think that's been my biggest problem, trying to win the favor of people who aren't going to help me advance professionally or personally. I need to work on that.

Charles June 3, 2008 at 10:49 AM

I like this...especially the major time with minor people. I'm way too nice and I try to satisfy everyone so its hard to let people go....but its a lesson that I was forced to learn.

Sha Boogie June 3, 2008 at 11:43 AM

I can dig it! A reason, a season or a lifetime... People aint meant to be in your life forever, so I'm just thankful for the lesson they brought along with them and K.I.M.

Melody.Darlene June 3, 2008 at 12:32 PM

thats one of my favorite lines... "chickens cant fly!" damn i forgot about that quote!!

but anyway, couldnt agree with you more!! it's a part of growing up. when you're young and in high school ppl hang around ppl b/c they are a part of this circle and that's just the way the cookie crumbles. but when u get older u realize you can pick and choose your friends and you can pick and choose your battles.

the rest is for tha birds!

RealHustla June 3, 2008 at 12:38 PM

Word Up! I know I'm dating myself by using this phrase, but what you said is so true. Now, if I could just figure out how to shake some of these chickens!

rethots June 3, 2008 at 12:51 PM

"Birds of a feather flock together...." WORD!!!

Tiffany S. Jones June 3, 2008 at 12:53 PM

Say word! Girl if there's one thing I've learned in my 26 years on this planet is sometimes you have to let go of your phriends. I use the 'ph' because more often than not you find out these folks are phony.
I have a lot of acquaintances but a handful of friends. My friends know me and I know them, so well in fact that all I have to do is say, "hey" or "what's up" and they immediately know something's wrong.
My acquaintances on the other hand, will carry on with whatever because they haven't bothered to notice.
I say that to tell you what my mama used to tell me, "everybody that's got ya phone number ain't ya friend."

Sista GP June 3, 2008 at 1:31 PM

You know who your real friends are when you are in trouble. It is good to keep them in your address book.

Alice S. June 3, 2008 at 2:30 PM

I posted this too! Its sooo true, but sometimes its hard for me to cut people off.

anonymousnupe June 3, 2008 at 3:30 PM

How apropos. I recently ran a contest at the high school to let the kids come up with a slogan for the athletic club and that was one of the submissions: "You can't soar with the Eagles if you walk with chickens." Our mascot is, you guessed it, old baldy.

Eros June 3, 2008 at 3:35 PM

Profound indeed... "Don't spend major time with minor people."

soumynona June 3, 2008 at 3:42 PM

You know I always feel like if people believe they are so much different or better than you can make the people around you better - don't leave them bc you could be just what they needed - that's just what Jesus did...
just my two cents

G. Mo June 3, 2008 at 3:49 PM

After a while you get tired of the dumb sh*t and just gotta move on without certain folk. It's a damn shame when you cross paths later on in life and they're still where they were when you left them...

12kyle June 3, 2008 at 6:59 PM

Good one lil sis!

Stay away from chickenheadz, too! LoL

Great post

Britney June 3, 2008 at 8:02 PM

Man, so true. Grow or Go. imma start using that :)

Mo June 3, 2008 at 10:03 PM

you said it. People are in your life for a lifetime & others for a season.

Momma-Swag June 3, 2008 at 11:09 PM

Very true! My family used to give me a hard time about my lack of friends. Once they took a look that their drama filled lives courtesy of their friends, they came to understand the power of numbers. Less is Best!

magnoliapeach June 4, 2008 at 12:07 AM

I believe Martin said (the condensed version): watch those you hang around, either one of two things are going to happen:
Either you are going to pull them up or they are going to pull you down, and in most cases its the latter.
Church!

Just_Wondering June 6, 2008 at 1:14 PM

Love Love Love this post! You could not have said it any better. When I turned 25 I did a clean sweep and flushed negative people out of my life. Since then I've felt so much better and I refuse to let those type of people in my circle

Eb the Celeb June 6, 2008 at 6:14 PM
