Thought to Ponder : Emotions

Lately I have really been in touch with mine. Not afraid to show love, not afraid to show feelings, admitting things about myself, my weaknesses, when I fail, being outright mean when I want and putting my foot down. Using my emotions to stand for something, but also using them to show my appreciation. I've allowed myself to be vulnerable even when I want to be strong. Letting people in without wanting anything to come of it. I'm really working on not over thinking things and just letting them flow. Emotions aren't suppose to be rationale. You can't control the way you feel. Here are some quotes that made me realize that.

"Cherish your own emotions and never undervalue them."
Robert Henri

"Any emotion, if it is sincere, is involuntary."
-Mark Twain

"Feelings are not suppose to logical. Dangerous is the man that has rationalized his emotions."
-David Borenstein

"But some emotions don't make a lot of noise. It's hard to hear pride. Caring is real faint - like a heartbeat. And pure love - why, some days it's so quiet, you don't even know it's there."
- Unknown

"It's all emotion. But there's nothing wrong with emotion. When we are in love, we are not rational; we are emotional. When we are on vacation, we are not rational; we are emotional."
-Frank Luntz

"By starving emotions we become humorless, rigid and stereotyped; by repressing them we become literal, reformatory and holier-than-thou; encouraged, they perfume life; discouraged, they poison it."
-Joseph Collins

But just because you're in touch with your emotions and realize they don't make sense an aren't suppose to, doesn't mean they shouldn't be controlled. Here are some quotes to help you balance.

"The sign of an intelligent people is their ability to control their emotions by the application of reason."
-Marya Mannes

"There can be no knowledge without emotion. We may be aware of a truth, yet until we have felt its force, it is not ours. To the cognition of the brain must be added the experience of the soul."
-Arnold Bennett

"A life based on reason will always require to be balanced by an occasional bout of violent and irrational emotion, for instinctual drives must be satisfied.
-Cyril Connolly

And to rid ourselves of the lie that woman are more emotionally than men... I leave you with this quote.

Men are no more immune from emotions than women; we think women are more emotional because the culture lets them give free vent to certain feelings, "feminine" ones, that is, no anger please, but it's okay to turn on the waterworks.
-Una Stannard

"A man who is master of himself can end a sorrow as easily as he can invent a pleasure. i don't want to be at the mercy of my emotions. I want to use them, to enjoy them, and to dominate them."
-Oscar Wilde

One last tidbit

"The walls we build around us to keep sadness out also keeps out the joy."
-Jim Rohn

Great post! This is where I am right now too! Just letting them be. I dont have to understand them, just know they are there. And real. :) Enjoy your day!

AH! I could have used all of these on Saturday to explain my rampant, momentary (ridiculous, but not) burst of "emotions" lol!

I sometimes wish I didn't have emotions...to be able to do things and not care.

Girl, I'm still trying to get there. I can be vulnerable but it's so hard. I give you that!

I'm too much of a control freak when it comes to my emotions to go that far. Maybe I need work.

Love the quotes.....

Emotions remind us that we are human!!! Without emotions how can we really experience the benefits of a relationship, being vulnerable, knowing what we want or don't want. Emotions may feel like a roller coaster sometimes but I wouldn't give them away for anything.....

I think there's a freedom in being able to connect and identify with your emotions. It takes time and we slip now and then, but being able to manage through the good and bad is priceless.
