MY PRESIDENT IS BLACK!!!

Inauguration Weekend in DC was a blast. Went to Love Saturday night for Diddy's party. The party was kinda whack but the highlight of my night was seeing Stevie Wonder. Yes he was in the club. I couldn't believe it.

Sunday I spent all day with some friends at Lucky Strike, eating drinking, and watching the games. I got the Cardinals going all the way.

Monday I had lunch with some people from NC that I hadn't seen in a while in Dupont Circle. When we were leaving the restaurant we saw this.

Then we had a cook out that nightBut today was the main event. A couple hours ago I was on the National Mall, freezing my behind off for change... and especially because I'm anemic... this was a big deal for me to weather the Arctic temperature for hours on end but it was all worth it. Woke up at 4am, put on 3 layers of clothing under my coat and headed out.

The metro ride was smooth sailing. I had my Obama Metro card in hand!

No problems at all until we got to the mall. This is a pic of the line just to get off the metro. Then once you get off you have to take an escalator to the street and yes there was another line for that.We went to the 7th street entrance where they said you would be able to walk onto the mall.90minutes later they tell this huge crowd they aren't opening this entrance. You know black folks were hot! We headed down to 12th and still made it with a good position in front of a jumbo tron.
The sun finally decided to join us...So I did a quick video update

Here was the view in front of me

Here was the view behind me

By this time I was all smiles. Proud to be an American, and excited about witnessing something so historic.
Snipers were in full effect

It was freezing out there...They played the concert from Sunday on the jumbo trons while we waited for the ceremony to begin so people sang and danced to keep warm.

Close-up of all the VIP's

Finally Barack makes his entrance

MY PRESIDENT IS BLACK!!!
The crowd goes wild when he gets sworn in.

It was an amazing experience... that I will cherish for the rest of my life. Didn't find my husband though...lol... but I wasn't really looking either! History baby... and I was there!

Leaving was hell though. DC ya'll really need to get it together. They had all them volunteers and none of them knew how the heck to get out. All the streets were blocked off... this was the line to get on the subway. Then we walked farther to other stations they said would be open and weren't. We ended up walking I don't even know how long... at least a mile and a half...back to where we were staying. Bodies aching and freezing, but it was still all worth it.

Watched the parade from the spot though...lol.

oh wow!!! what a great time for you to be able to be a part of.
I have to say... I'm glad that I decided not to go... I would've been STUGGLING in that cold.
My Dad is the Diplomatic Assistant to our Ambassador and offerred to pull some strings to get me (and him of course) in some seats with our Ambassador... and I had to decline... that weather is just screaming the flu. LOL
I'm glad I got to see it from your (great) point of view though!
Great blog!!! =)

Way to represent EB!! Thank you for posting the pictures and footage so quickly. I had to work today, but I disappeared for about an hour (shh, don't tell nobody) so that I could watch President Obama and Vice President Biden get sworn in. Seeing that huge crowd of happy people was so moving... and knowing that you were in the midst of that has got to be the greatest feeling.

I am glad that you were able to experience this (though I am sure being frozen for most of it left something to be desired - like HEAT!). But nevertheless, I am sure you had a wonderful time. I watched it while at work and cried like a baby...

Dave Van Buren January 21, 2009 at 10:09 AM

Thank you for going and giving up all the info. You are a better person that me. I couldn't be out there in the cold, crowds, and the madness. It's great that you were able to experience history first hand. Kudos.

Props to you Eb!!! I started to go out...but ended up watching from my warm comfy couch LOL. I couldn't do it!!

YAY our President is BLACK!!!!

RealHustla January 21, 2009 at 6:40 PM

The fact that ya'll were only a mile and a half away seems like a god send.

Were there any restaurants that you could have hung out in till it all thinned out?

I couldn't even recognize you in your freezing cold clothes. I think if you would have met a man, he woulda been the one. He would have felt like God had truly blessed him once he saw you in your true EB The Celeb self.

MzInspiredMind81 January 21, 2009 at 9:03 PM

You definitely had a ball! I'm still 'j' that I didn't get to go..but I was glued to my tv all day yesterday so I guess I can't complain to much.

suiteSTL January 21, 2009 at 11:43 PM
