So I was working NBA all-star weekend in New Orleans for the past couple days that's why I haven't posted since Valentines Day. My schedule was crazy hectic out there, but being that it was my first time in New Orleans I managed to do a little site seeing. I walked around in the French Market... which is really artsy and gorgeous, my hotel was right near riverwalk, and of course I walked down the infamous Bourbon street. But the part of my trip that touched me most was on Friday during NBA cares. The NBA did an entire day of service on friday, where players, celebrities and volunteers all came out to help build houses, playgrounds, paint schools, etc. to try to rebuild what Katrina tore apart. Here is the house we were standing inside of. There were barely any walls left. It was extremely sad. When we left the site we rode by this long bridge under the highway. There were a couple dozens tents set up. I asked the driver what they were and he said they were filled with families that lost everything in Katrina. I couldn't believe that 3 years later people are still living in tents under a bridge. It boggled me so and touched me like no other. I felt so stupid for complaining about all the things I complain about on the daily when there are people living in tents. Rain, sleet, whatever, they are in tents. No hot water, no basic necessities. Imagine going camping for 3 years... that's basically what they have been doing.
There was an upside to my trip though. At the ESPN party on Friday night... Common performed. If you click on this pic it will take you to my music blog where you can see video from his performance.Besides that it was a regular old business trip. I am tired as hell right now after running around on shoots all weekend. I did have a chance to chill in a suite and enjoy the game last night though. Here's a pic of me and my co-worker Molly in the Midway suite at the game.

now this is a good post
it brought attention to the terrible conditions down there brought on by the governments indifferent attitude towards the people down there (our people)
this really makes me hate the people in power
I always love your pics...and yes you have a good heart too! Bless you girl!
That irks me that people are still living in tents, under bridges, and no one is doing anything about it.
Community service...yea!!
