April... the month of reinventing yourself

Every year, April is the month I take to reinvent myself. Don't know why, but it has always been that way. Spring is officially in full effect... I always switch up my hairstyle... here's the new do,and I usually am out and about a lot more since I tend to hibernate in the winter. Since dedicating 2009 to becoming a better me... I have really been writing down little tidbits about things I need to do in order to reinvent myself this go round, rather than it just being physical.

1. Be more social in public. A lot of people say I intimidate people in person. Online I will talk to a person all day every day and be extremely cordial, and in person... if I don't know you, can be somewhat standoffish. I'm working on that... I really don't mean to be a b*tch.

2. Expand my dating horizons. I'm going to step outside my usual type this spring. Ya'll thought I was playing about the "something new." Well I met this cutie white boy in his mid 30's, ex-baseball player, now works in finance at a bar on wed night. We exchanged numbers. I don't think I've ever given a whiteboy my number. So I'm taking it one step at a time. I'm also going speed dating in a couple weeks. Should be interesting... I'll definitely be tweeting (www.twitter.com/Eb_the_Celeb) the entire experience.

3. Specifically define where I want to be at 30. I will be 28 next month....lawd I'm getting up there. Since leaving the corporate world my focus has changed dramatically. I went from :

a. loving production and never wanting to be on camera, to being involved as a Talent
on 2 new shows that are in development.

b. writing in my spare time, to having to write to pay the bills.

c. thinking that I was just simply crazy and goofy, to thinking maybe I am pretty witty,
funny, and entertaining.

A lot of that is due to my wonderful readers here I must say. The feedback and love that I get from you all on the daily is something I will forever be grateful for. On this past Tuesday (the last day in March) I hit a record high for this blog and got over 650 hits that day. I thought my sitemeter was having a seizure. I really want you all to know that I really do appreciate you, and want to apologize for the fact that I've been a bad blog reader lately, and not having the time to go down that extremely long blogroll and hit you all up and comment, but I do still love you all.

So in the next month I will be definitely defining my 2 year plan. Where I want to live, where I want to be in my career, and the steps I need to take in order to get there.

So I challenge all my wonderful Renaissance Black People to reinvent yourself. If that means setting goals, or letting go of some baggage, or simply shaving those legs (since I know some of ya'll ladies... including myself... do not shave their legs in the winter...lol.) But whatever it is, big or small... do something to better and/or reinvent yourself this month.

If you need a little help on where to begin, here is a great site that I frequent with little tidbits on how to be a better you. www.reinventingmyself.com

I won't have to try hard to reinvent myself...I'm pregnant! The next biggest change will be when I go through menopause, LOL!

WOW. I really like that cut on you!

And the re-invention... lovely... You know I'm reassessing my life, too, as this writing BS is getting OLD with me LOL, but it's great advice for everyone. We should all always be evolving, growing and striving to be better.

Can't wait for us all to get there and beyond!

(PS- you know I like to lighten my hair when it's nice out, but this year, I'm gonna stay dk. brown... and grow it out. I miss my long hair!)

Love the new do...(but I told you that on facebook-lolol)
I love the thought of re-invention.
My daughter just turned 28(Can't believe you all are the same age) and she's going through the process of being a mommy (again) and now being a wife..She talked to me about a number of the things you discussed in your post.
It got me to thinking..of how you never are too young or too old to take stock of your life and fine tune a few things...I may be wanting to check out that site you listed and see if it has anything for me.

I like hair. It is definitely looking good on you.

I am going through a mini-crisis. My job is not renewing my contract so I am trying to find work. I am working to make it so that I dont stress about it. I am doing ok with it. I guess for April, I am releasing that stress.

Chari April 4, 2009 at 9:14 PM
