A bowling alley... BOUGIE???

I shouldn't even say bougie... That's too nice, I should say racist, prejudice. First of all, since when did it become a black tie affair to go bowling??? That's what the Lucky Strike in NYC on 42nd street and 12th ave. seems to think.

Here is a pic of the dress code to get in the bowling alley. I understand they have a lounge in the back... and if you are going to the lounge I can see where they would have a dress code. But if me and the homies are going to bowl, who wants to bowl in a 3-piece suit??? What the hell is "MC Clothing???" Can somebody, anybody please explain this to me... because I don't get it.

Another problem I have... check out how far the damn sign is from the entrance.
That's that bullshit.

But here is the kicker. We were fine and dandy when they wouldn't let my homie in that had on a white tee under his jacket. Yes... under his jacket that he even promised he wouldn't take off and would even zip up and they still said no. Then a group of maybe 6-8 people walk up. Of a particular color that isn't our own, talk to the head of security... which is this white dude in the green shirtand all go in with no problems, even though one of the dudes with them has on a white tee. We asked why he was allowed in and do you know this fool had the nerve to tell me, "Well miss, you should know there are always exceptions and he's with someone I know." Oh 4real!!! So that means there are no rules, you just don't want my kind in there.

The black dude above checking ID had the nerve to say they act like that because HOT97 had an event there and caused thousands of dollars of damage... as if that was suppose to make me feel better about what was happening to us.

So we are having a STRIKE on LUCKY STRIKE... if you are on twitter... please make full use of the hashtag #fuckluckystrike because we are going IN today. And I will never set foot in that place again and hoping this will get the word out in NYC so that you wont ever go there again either. This is so saddening because I actually like Lucky Strike. I've been to the one in DC and the one in ATL and they are my fav spots to hang. Neither of those 2 has a dress code to get in... Most people come in the place to watch the game so they have on jerseys but NYC Lucky Strike wants to be on that bull. Completely unacceptable!!!

I'm going to need Ed Lover to do one of his C'mon son episodes off this madness. Hell if I get up the notion I might do my own. Just in case you have no idea what I'm talking about check out this vid.

Sorry to hear that Eb!

It isn't news to me because it happens so often here but I hope you'll find somewhere else to go bowling! the only thing you can do is shake your head, pray and move on girl!

It was kinda shocking to me... this is only the 2nd time I've witnessed straight out racist behavior towards someone I know right to my face so sometimes I forget what's really going on... what a harsh slap to the face!

you don't have to ask me twice to boycott... and it was annoying for the other security guard to be all, "They won't lose any money if you boycott... you should just follow the dress code" whatever, man.

Woooooow! That's crazy. I don't understand what "MC colors" are either. And um, no chains? Soooo, I can't wear my dainty rose gold chain that has multiple strands and delicate little leaves on it? Or would I be acceptable as long as I wasn't also wearing MC colors? Establishments have to understand that knuckleheads are knuckleheads no matter the clothes or skin color. They need security to do a better job of picking out the potential troublemakers instead of making a ridiculous and insulting dress code for a friggin' bowling alley/lounge.

I've already stated my peace on Twitter but I'll say it again.

Since when does one incident color EVERY single person that comes into that place. So if some white rockers came in and wrecked the place would they stop white boys from coming in.....NO.
This is that BULLSHIT For REAL. I was considering this place for the Mr. bday but thats over.

Keep the movement going, its cool...i hope folks really follow what your saying because the way you affect anyone's business is by taking they dollars way. Consumers say how the feel with they money, not just words. Good luck Eb, Cincinnati got ya back lol...

I know the manager of the NYC Lucky Strike as a close friend and he is farrrrr from racist...I also worked at the LS in Bellevue, Wa with him and they have the exact same sign. Its a standard LS sign. LS is supposed to be upscale all the way through...even the bowling area. That's what makes it different. Also MC Clothing is motorcycle club (colors) clothing, which tells you they aren't singling any one group out. Also, wearing a white tee vs a white tee under a blazer/suit style jacket IS a different look and that's probably why he got in. Remember comments from the door do not always represent the company's views. They are just given rules and they follow them. Besides LS is like a club setting somewhat so yes, if you know somebody, you're probably getting "in VIP". Its not racist though and anybody making blatant comments that lead to that...is speaking for themselves and not LS...but moree importantly DEFINITELY not the manager. If you see him (Tom)...tell him MikeDrastic said hi. Talk to him, hell be more than willing to hear out your concerns. Stay up and be blessed. Peace.

I'm not surprised......I work in DC and visited the one here that had the same sign. In fact the website also lists a dress code for the DC location as well.

It's a cool place to hang out, but if I have to second guess my outfit to bowl on top of parking issues (@DC location), I'd rather take go to an AMC bowling spot.

MikeDrastic August 28, 2009 at 12:18 PM

And yes I/we turned away more "white boys" than any other race when I was there...also check the website out. Www.bowlluckystrike.com its def' not the typical bowling spot. I wouldn't normally post but I want to make sure my friend, the manager, doesn't get a rep he doesn't deserve. Feel me?

Thanks for the clarification on MC colors, Mike! I really didn't understand that at all.

Eb the Celeb August 28, 2009 at 12:41 PM

@Ed - Do you know that when we told the black security guard that we were going to put the word out he said "It doesn't matter because they don't need 'our' money to survive." We are going to show them!

@Mike - The dude that was with me is the one that had on the jacket and didn't get in. The guy that got in had on a white tee with a small logo on the front and was allowed in. There is no explanation of that. There needs to be consistency. The dress code was not the problem, the problem started when he couldn't explain to us why someone else with the same attire got in and his explanation was "because he's with a friend of mine"

But its agreed that we should have taken it up with management and I still may do that. Thanks for your comment.

MikeDrastic August 28, 2009 at 12:42 PM

No problem. They should clarify but I guess if you're a biker...its for you..and they know what MC is..either way..give LS one more chance y'all...and ask for Tom...tell him MikeDrastic sent you (but only if y'all bein nice lol) :p

How absolutely sad(but not surprising) You would think in '2009' and with as much diversity as the US has that simpleminded shit like this is of yesteryear. Some things will never change.

Unknown August 28, 2009 at 3:33 PM

Wow , This is sad. It is amazing the things that still go on in this country. I say take it to em hard. They need to respect people and not just "who they know". And to clear up the "mc colors" thing " MC = Motorcycle club " ie ruff ryders etc etc. The "colors" are what they call the leather vests we wear.

Unbelieveaable in this day and age that some establishments are still trying to pull that crap. We have a Lucky Strike here in Philly. It would go out of business if they tried that dress code crap. (80 percent of it's clientele is African-American and Latino and mostly in their late twenties.)

clnmike August 30, 2009 at 11:40 PM

The more things change the more they stay the same.

Urban Thought August 31, 2009 at 5:35 PM

That place is so far west and way up in price it makes in not worth the trek in the first place. I remember seeing the dress code before and wanted a picture example of what to wear.

But that is bugged. The funny thing for me is that Hot97 serves you hip-hop but you look at the board of directors and those would be the type of people get get into the club.

But do all people of a certain hue represent Hot 97? I think not. I'm with you on this one.
