Black Men on TV

We all know that there is a lack there of. But this week we have the premiere of a new show and the start of the second season for another.
The first is G's to Gents. If you have not seen the trailor yet here you go.
I really hope it doesn't turn out like Charm School which basically made all those women look 10 times more ignorant and unable to help. I'm hoping that because of Farnsworth Bentley hosting and that it has Jamie Foxx's imprint on it, that it will be a little more classy and reflect more on their growth as individuals then the mishaps they may have along the way of getting there, but we all know it wont because the main focus for TV right now on all networks is to make African Americans look as ignorant as possible for the entire world to look at. (I know that's a run-on sentence but I don't feel like being editorially correct at the moment.)
I am going to check out the premiere tonight on MTV at 10pm and will probably post in the comments after it airs how I feel about the debut episode.
Next up is Black Men Revealed. I love this show on TVOne... here is the description from their website if you have never heard of the show.

"Have you ever wondered what goes on inside the mind of a Black man? Well, if you don't know, then you better ask somebody about SEASON 2 of Black Men Revealed ! That's right, TV One's original talk series is back and this time it's hosted by sports radio hosts, Doug and Ryan Stewart, otherwise known as "The 2 Live Stews."
With each new episode, you'll have a chance to get inside the mind of five brothers who openly address the Black issues that are usually only discussed in the barbershop or the locker room.
This season, brothers dish about what Black men really want, need and think all while kicking it in an intimate, female-free setting in the ATL.

From the Wall Street brothers to the blue collar men, make a date with Black Men Revealed for an eye opening night of candid conversations about life, love and relationships."
I am extremely excited about the new season. The conversations that my homeboys tend to not let me in on so I can have all the secrets to the male psyche they go into here. The second season starts this Sunday, July 20th at 10 pm. Here is a clip from last season to give you an idea of how it goes down.

The Gentleman's Club does look like a male version on "Charm School." As it relates to "Charm School" they went wrong with having Monique be the host.
Don't get me wrong, I love Monique but charming she is not.
But the difference here is I think Bentley is going to challenge these guys to be better men. It looks like it's going to be some drama. Surprisingly, it looks a little more real than Charm School. I think a lot of those chicks were puttin' on for the cameras.
As far as Black Men Revealed, I've seen it, but only maybe two shows. There were a couple of those dudes who I wanted to sit down with and have a "Come to Jesus" moment.
I don't know, I look at Gs to Gents, and all i can think of is some Gangstalicious from the Boondocks type mess. But i hope it turns out ok.
Gs to Gents looks so silly..but I might watch it. I saw the preview for Black Men Revealed so i'm definitely watching..
As others have stated, G's to Gents is very reminiscent of Charm School and do we really need a second addition? But I'll probably tune in every now and again just for the sake of it.
I haven't had the chance to catch an episode of Black Men Revelaed, but I'll probably tune it to check it out.
Um, so yea...Imma gone ahead and pass on both of those shows.
I'm with Darius.. I'm passing on these shows.
we gotta let TV people know that we won't settle for subpar entertainment, and that Gs the Gents? yeah, that's just Flava of Love disguised... instead why can't they keep ALL 14 men on for the duration and help each of them start anew? Instead of making it a competition about money and 15 mins of fame?
there used to be a show on Oxygen or Lifetime like that- where women were on there for a chance to make themselves over from the inside. no one got voted off and each episode was a chance to grow as a person.
but I know that's a pipe dream; it's much easier and funnier to take some ghetto fools and let them show their a$$es on TV. now THAT sells ads, and in essence, that's what TV is- a place to sell ads. we need to remember that...
i aint never heard or seen of them shows
Um, I am NOT optimistic about the Jamie Foxx show. Seeing as Fonsworth Bentley is hosting, I can't take the show seriously. It does indeed look like a male charm school so I won't be watching. Black Men Revealed on the other hand, that's what's up. I love it!
I will definitely check out this show...what's sad is, I'm so use to seeing reality shows, when I see sitcoms, I automatically changed the channel.
Offically brainwashed..
Excellent post, it's good to see men for a change...hood or not
amen@karrie b.
i think g's to gents might actually turn out to be something.
and i love the 2 live stews. their commentary on sports is something i can understand and relate to
im optimistic about the G's to gents, but i agree with Jaded that no one needs to get voted off.
I hadn't heard of the show "Black Men Revealed" but it definitely sounds interesting.
Had my hopes on seeing G's to Gents but unfortunately, until I get my cable service back it'll have to wait.
I'll be tuning in to Black Men Revealed. The Stews will bring a different flavor to the show. I'm looking forward to it.
With TV One...you don't have all of that bafoonery like you see on BET. Their programming is different. It'll be entertaining.
I'll give Bentley a shot. Why not? If it's good i'll watch it again.
Can't wait till football season starts!!
I plan on checking out G's To Gents. I read an article where Farnsworth said he was serious with helping the guys change.
Never seen an episode of Black Men Revealed. I'll have to check it out.
To be honest, I won't be watching the Gs to Gents show b/c I'm so tired of watching shows like this. Its crazy
About the other show...I might watch it every now and then just to see what the men are talking about (since they hardly ever open up to women)
By the way, I'm feeling your blog :)
Hmm...sis, i think i'ma stick to Family Guy. LOL!
The tv's at my house are tuned in to ESPN or turned off.
I've pretty much given up on network television.
i won't be watching that "g" show. i have no faith that it's gonna be cool. just the title alone is irking the hell out of me.
might check out the second show though, just cuz i like the two live stews.
what i'd REALLY like to see is black men on network shows where they weren't just the smear on the wall representing black folk everywhere.
From G's to Gents looks EXACTLY like charm school...
i wish MTV would go back to playing videos....
AAArgh...I will give it a looksee!
Black Men Revealed was pretty good. I believe they have two new hosts...those sports talk Brothers.
I look ofrward to your reviews
I might have decided to get cable if they were committed to converting all of the men to gentlemen. I guess they had to give them some incentive though. I'm going to watch Black Men Revealed online. I need as much info as I can get whether or not I agree with it.
I really want to see a Black Gentleman on television.
There is no such thing as a reality show on BET, VH1, or MTV that puts black people in a positive light, The Gents show wont be different.
OMG I caught this show one night and I thoroughly enjoyed and you know what I could not find it again for nothing. But now I have the name of it "Black Men Revealed". Its good stuff!
I plan on watching tonights episode of G. If I don't like it or I feel like I am watching FOL then tonight will be the last night.
As for TVone's Black Men Revealed I loved this show last season. Sadly I now have Cablevision and no TV one.
I'll pass on the "g" show but i'll def check out "black men revealed." also, can't wait to see "black in america" on CNN next week!
OK I just watched and I don't know if I can do it again. I barely paid attention to this one too much tomfoolery.
they should pay u for the promo work
thanks for the previews, eb

jus got done watching it....... LAME!!!!!
the only reason why i would watch it is because im stuck in the house on a Tuesday night!!!!
Actually, I think Gs to Gays- I mean Gays, not Gents- started as Charm School 2. I was surprised when it was moved from VH1 to MTV (the Viacom sister station of VH1) and casted using new guys instead of the washed-up dudes from I Love New York 1 & 2 .
Yeah, Fonzworth is gonna leave them a little sweet on the edges. You can be a gentleman without putting too much emphasis on the "gentle" part.
------
Black Men Revealed is lame too. The concept was tried on BET not too long ago. I forget the name of that specific travesty. But ladies, just read my blog, Keith's blog, Darius T. Williams, Kyle12 or Torrance All Mi-T's blog. We'll tell you how black men really feel. Besides, most of the stuff they'll be saying is stuff you already know.
The real secrets WE WILL NEVER TELL. ;)
I'm not watching from G's to gents. Not on your life.
