Sometimes my spirit is clouded and although invited to many events I stay home. Sometimes you're just tired of being around people that just want to be seen or known for something. Half of them don't even care what they are known for, just as long as they can jump in every picture and pray they end up on WireImage. Yes, a secret that many people don't want to talk about is a lot of NYers live to end up on WireImage. Seriously, how is that gratifying? If you are doing something great, people will notice. You don't have to be at every event, don't lie and say you're networking because once you're in the circle you know everyone anyway. I'm always looking at the big picture, and still struggling with my on-cam presence since I hate is so much, so I can never relate to these people. So here are a couple thoughts to ponder that challenge what is means to really BE SOMEBODY.
"Better to be a nobody and yet have a servant than pretend to be somebody and have no food." - Proverbs 12:9
"When you are content to be simply yourself and don't compare or compete, everybody will respect you." - Lao-Tzu
"Try not to be a person of success, but rather a person of virtue."
- Albert Einstein

Good post, sis. I do notice that in some people- the desire to be seen. Meanwhile I stay in the cut watching everybody so I can talk about them after I get home LOL
But seriously, it's good to re-evaluate who you're around from time to time, because you want to make sure they're about something and not just trying to "appear" to be be about something.
I'm sure you see this more often than the average person, the whole desire to floss and be the boss, Its good that you keep things in perspective and pick and choose where you want to be...instead of going to every function that you are ever invited to. Its clear you love what you do, and your character will shine through no matter where you are or who you are around. I always try to be true to myself never been one to follow the crowd. Still chasing my dreams....lets see if I can grab ahold to them. Great post. Simple but to the point
"If you are doing something great, people will notice."
& if they don't, you'll still be happy with the fact you're doing something great and you won't seek mass validation.
Love this post.

The hang-out-to-be-seen culture was hot during my undergrad time in Atlanta. (And I imagine that's still "hot.") Never really felt like getting into that too heavy....
